David Ferrer hammers down Vasek Pospisil in 2nd round clash – Valencia Open 2011
David Ferrer, Spanish world No.5 and the top seed for Valencia Open 2011, ousted Canadian world No.133, Vasek Pospisil in the second round indoor hard court match on Wednesday, 2nd November at Ciutat de les Arts i les
Ciències, Valencia, Spain. Battling out for an hour and 31 minutes, Spaniard pocketed the fixture 6-3, 6-3, and moved on to the quarter-final round of the event.
The fixture started off with a fiery breakpoint as Pospisil served to the top seed, however, lost, as Ferrer broke early to take the lead. Serving out game two, Ferrer extended his lead to 2-0 and switched the serve. Serving for
the second time in the opening set, the Canadian once again broke down and the furious world No.5 pulled off his third consecutive win, 3-0.
Ferrer continued with his second serve of the set bagging the game, game four, and led the scoreboard, 4-nil. Pospisil finally broke the silence serving out game five, yet did not do any damage to the Spaniards momentum. Saving
a break point, Ferrer swirled away winning game six and added a win to his lead, 5-1.
Canadian world No.133 did pull back two games as he broke-n-served next, 5-3, however, was unable to do the same again and broke down right away, game 9, and lost the set, 6-3.
Ferrer, dominating throughout the opening set of the match, continued with set two and served out the opening game, 1-0. Following the top seed, Pospisil served out his first serve saving a near breakpoint, 1-1. Carrying on, the
two won games of respective serve and evened up again at 2-2 and then at 3-3.
Serving out game seven with a double game point win, led the scoreboard, 4-3, before the top seed broke his rival in game eight and extend the difference, 5-3. With just one game short of winning the second round match, Ferrer
served out game nine with a splendid cross-court winner to finish off set, 6-3, and the fixture winning both sets with the same score.
Maintaining his position as the top seed, Ferrer lingers on to the round of eight of the ATP World Tour 500 event. Spaniard plays next against the Russian former world No.3, Nikolay Davydenko, to battle out the semis seat. The
Russian veteran ousted the fifth seed, Gilles Simon, in the opening round and is in better form this time. However, it would be hard for Davydenko to outrun the on fire, Ferrer.
