David Ferrer is looking forward to playing again at the London’s O2 Arena – Tennis News
Spain’s world number five, David Ferrer, has said that he is happy on achieving the goal of qualifying for the ATP World Tour Finals again this year. The season ending championships will be once again held on the hard courts of
O2 Arena in London.
The event, in which top eight singles players and teams participate every year, will be held from 5-12 November. Ferrer will participate in the ATP World Tour Finals for the fourth time overall in his career and for the third straight
season.
Ferrer was asked of his feelings on qualifying for the mega event and he replied, “I am very happy because to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is a great achievement. It’s always one of my goals at the beginning of
each year. I look forward to coming back to The O2 in London to play against the best players in the world in November. The atmosphere in the stadium is incredible there.”
ATP’s President, Brad Drewett, added, “We’re delighted that David will be back to compete at this year’s Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. He is one of the toughest competitors in the sport and fully deserves his place among the
world’s Top 8 at The O2.”
Making his debut at the event in 2007, the Spaniard had the best one, as he stunned three top five players, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal; and Andy Roddick on his way to the title match. However, he lost to one of the best players
in the history of the sport, Roger Federer, in the final.
The right-hander failed to qualify for the season ending championships in 2008 and 09. When he returned to the event in 2010, the 5ft 9in tall did not have a good one, as he lost all of his three round robin matches in straight
sets.
Ferrer had a good one again last year, upsetting the then world number one, Djokovic; and third highest ranked player, Andy Murray, in the round robin matches to qualify for the semis. Though, the Swiss Maestro, Federer, came in
his way again and the Spaniard lost in straight sets.
