David Ferrer ousts Blaz Kavcic to reach pre-quarters – London Olympics 2012
Fourth seed, David Ferrer, stomped over the Slovenian star, Blaz Kavcic, in straight sets at the London Olympics 2012 on Tuesday. He penned down a 6-2, 6-2 victory against the world number 76 to charge into the third round at the All England Lawn Tennis
and Croquet Club in London, Great Britain.
The top Spaniard at this event, Ferrer displayed solid tennis to outsmart the Slovene in their first encounter. After recording the victory, Ferrer comfortably booked a place in the round of 16 at this major sports event taking place in Wimbledon.
Ferrer made a solid entry at Games of x*x Olympiad. After Kavcic kept his serve in the fourth game, the Spaniard unleashed his skills and wiped out the following four games in a row. He ruled throughout the set and sealed it by winning six games to two.
Ranked fifth in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Ferrer kept his rhythm in the following set. He earned the desiderated break in the fourth game and leaped to a 4-1 lead. The Spaniard held his remaining serves and cashed in another break
chance in the last game, eventually clinching the match with a 6-2 score line.
Next up for Ferrer is the 15th seed, Kei Nishikori, who bounced back to overpower Russia’s Nikolay Davydenko in three sets to set up this match.
The former world number one, Andy Roddick, faced a bitter reality later that day. He bowed out to second seeded Novak Djokovic in 54 minutes.
Roddick stated after losing his second round match: “He played great. He was just in the zone. The conditions were perfect. He was hitting it well. If he is hitting the ball like that, my chance is to serve really well. I didn’t serve great today. I hit
the ball fine, [but] he was just too good from the baseline. He was seeing it like a basketball today.”
The American icon suffered a 2-6, 1-6 shock after failing to block all four breakpoints he encountered.
Djokovic on the other end advanced to set up a clash with Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt in the third round.
