David Ferrer ousts Lukas Lacko to reach second round – Roland Garros 2012
Sixth seed, David Ferrer from Spain, outmuscled the Slovakian contender, Lukas Lacko, with a breadstick at the French Open 2012, a Grand Slam event held on clay courts in Paris, France. He juggled up a 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 victory against
the world number 64 to power into the round of 64 on Tuesday.
The Spanish number two, David Ferrer, trashed Lacko after displaying brilliant agility form his box of tricks. Both contestants last battled each other at the Mercedes Cup five years ago and after earning this glory, the Spaniard
extended his lead in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head series by 2-0 against Lacko but also secured a spot in the second round.
Ferrer made a strong start at the court number two and jumped to a 2-0 lead with a break of serve. Despite losing his edge in the very next game, the Spaniard held remaining serves and capitalised on another break chance in the
sixth game to bag the opener with a 6-3 win.
Sixth ranked Spaniard carried his rhythm in the follow-up set and held his opening serve in the second game to level the scores at 1-1. He then swiped in his entire serves without facing any real challenge and got the breakthrough
in the fifth game to clinch the set with a 6-4 score line.
The 30-year-old went out of control in the third set and reeled off the opening four games in a row before Lacko could hold on. Ferrer plucked the last two games and pulled out the set with a breadstick.
All in all, the Spaniard clobbered a slightly higher first serve share of 52 per cent as compared to his rival’s 51 per cent and impressively clicked 32 out of 36 points on it. He also smashed 25 winners and spilled fewer unforced
errors.
Ferrer will square-off against the local contender, Benoit Paire, who overpowered the Spainish rising star, Albert Ramos, in a four-set thriller to set up this meeting.
The German contestant, Tommy Haas, also earned the fame later that day. He formulated a 6-3, 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory against the Italian contestant, Filippo Volandri, on Court number three.
