David Ferrer ousts Philipp Petzschner to lift the title – UNICEF Open 2012
World number five, David Ferrer, grab the UNICEF Open title with a straight sets  triumph, 6-3, 6-4, over the German qualifier, Philipp Petzschner, on the eve of Saturday. He just took 69 minutes in dumping the 28-year-old German
who had a terrific run throughout the tournament.
Ferrer started off the contest with a serve hold and broke serve in the following game to take a lead of 2-0. He further pushed the scores to 3-0 with a comprehensive serve hold. Spanish number two was on the verge of grabbing
a resounding 4-0 lead but the German qualifier saved three breakpoints on the trot to hold serve and lessen the trail.
The Spaniard took a lead of 4-1 with a commanding serve hold and broke serve for the second time in the set to post an unassailable lead of 5-1. However, he was forced to hold on a bit longer by the 141th ranked German
who broke serve out of nowhere to keep the set alive.
Petzschner held his serve to 40:15 and further decreased the trail to 3-5. However, he couldn’t break serve for the second time and lost the opening set to the in-form top seeded Spaniard. Trailing one set down, the German was
under the cosh but his performance throughout the tournament kept his morale high.
Ferrer tested the German in the opening game of the second set and finally grabbed a breakthrough in the third game; leading the scores 2-1. He held his serve to love to post a resounding lead of 3-1 in the meantime.
No more breakthroughs were witnessed in the match and the Spaniard grabbed the final victory of the tournament with no pressure at all. It was expected that the hard hitting fellow from Spain will easily clasp the title and he
did eventually. He will enter the year’s third Grand Slam Championship at Wimbledon on Monday. So, an amazing start to the grass court season will definitely help to boost his morale and improve his control over the shots.
David Ferrer is expected to reach at least the quarter-final stage of the grass court Grand Slam Championship.
