David Ferrer plonks Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to reach semis – BNP Paribas Masters 2012
Fourth seed, David Ferrer from Spain, got the better of the local top ranked star, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, in straight sets at the BNP Paribas Masters 2012 on Friday. He juggled up a 6-2, 7-5 victory against the sixth seed to progress into the final four at
the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy taking place from 27th October to 4th November in France.
The Spanish number two stayed on course for his seventh year-to-date title after overpowering Tsonga in their third encounter. The contenders last battled each other at the Wimbledon Championships last season and after earning this fame, Ferrer not only
avenged his loss but also took lead in the FedEx ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Head 2 Head Series by 2-1 against the Swiss resident.
Ferrer made a convincing entry at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy. After Tsonga held his serve in the fourth game, the Spaniard unleashed flurry of groundstrokes and winded up last four games. He was never challenged with any breakpoint and cashed two
out of six break chances to formulate a 6-2 success.
Ranked fifth in the world, Ferrer maintained consistency in his game in the following set. He ruled his entire serves without battling any breakpoint. The Spaniard got the breakthrough in the last game after capitalising on one out of three break chances
and clinched the set with a 7-5 score line.
Summing up performance of the Spaniard in this 80-minute marathon, Ferrer spilled more double faults and clobbered a lower first serve share of 55 per cent as compared to his rival’s 68 per cent. However, he spectacularly marked 24 out of 31 points on it
and ended the match with 61 points.
Ferrer will square off against the local wild card entrant, Michael Llodra, who dumped America’s Sam Querrey in straight sets to set up this meeting.
The fifth seed, Tomas Berdych, face a bitter reality later that day. He suffered a 4-6, 4-6 loss against the local contender, Gilles Simon, in one hour and 51 minutes. The Czech number one cashed one out of 10 break chances but dropped his serve three times
to endure this shock.
