David Ferrer rates Rafael Nadal higher than career ranking – Tennis News
World number five, David Ferrer, has clearly stated that he is proud to be the second best tennis player in the Spain because he has learned a lot from the Spanish superhuman, Rafael Nadal, who is the best player of his country.
Ferrer could have achieved a lot of success if the former world number one, Nadal, didn’t exist on the surface of professional tennis but there are no disappointments at all for the 30-year-old Spaniard who is happy to have nurtured himself by seeing his compatriot
play.
Ferrer commented in this regard, "I think Rafael is very, very important for us because he's the best player in the history of Spain and one of the best of the world. I don't care if without Rafael I was the No. 1 of Spain, because
I think I learn a lot with him, being close to him. I think in Spain people are looking more at tennis because of Rafael in these moments, and I think it's very good for us (and) for the other players."
Nadal is suffering from a chronic knee injury and in his absence; Ferrer has picked up the level of his game and made it to the semi-finals of the US Open Championship at New York. He will face the toughest test in the form of
the Serb superstar, Novak Djokovic, for a spot in the final showdown. However, there is no doubt that the upset is on the cards because the way he is playing, he can definitely dismantle the confidence of any player. The match will be tough and expected to
reach its full length of five sets but the odds still favour the defending champion.
Ferrer further added, "I talked with Rafa these days, like text, private conversation. Of course Rafael is always happy when I win matches." Ferrer wants to win the match on the eve of Saturday and prove to the world that he can
carry the flag of Spain in the absence of his beloved friend Nadal. However, the task is somewhat difficult for him than it could have been for the 26-year-old left-handed Nadal.
Other semi-final will take place between the likes of the sixth seed Czech star, Tomas Berdych, who registered an upset against the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, and the Olympics gold medallist, Andy Murray, who is looking to claim
his first ever Grand Slam Championship at New York.
