David Ferrer sends Alexandr Dolgopolov packing in round of 16 – BNP Paribas Masters 2011
David Ferrer, Spanish World No.5, outplayed his third round challenger of BNP Paribas Masters 2011, Alexandr Dolgopolov, Ukrainian world No.17, on Thursday, 10th of November at Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, Paris,
France. Playing on blue indoor circuits, the two lashed out on each other, however, Ferrer concluded with a straight set victory 6-3, 6-2, in an hour and 13 minutes to walk onto the next round of the event.
Although the Ukrainian is ranked in the top 20s’, he still could not match the consistency of the fittest player on the court, Ferrer. Comparatively, Spaniard played a comfortable knock combining the serve-n-volley tactic and net
play to oust the young rival and confiscate the fixture.
With the two walking down the blue circuit and warming up, Dolgopolov won the toss and commenced with the fixture. Serving out his first game of the match, Ukrainian rolled down his side of the scoreboard winning a double game
point winner, 1-0.
Ferrer, Spaniard, continued with his first serve of the match, game two, and slammed down his side of the scoreboard right away, 1-1. The two continued with winners of respective serves and evened up at 2-2 and then on 3-3 before
the Spaniard sparked up.
Breaking the lower ranked Ukrainian, Ferrer, world No.5, rattled away a break point winner, game seven, and led the board, 4-3. With just two more games left to finish off the set with a win, the 29-year-old Spaniard served out
game 8 and blistered the lower ranked rival with a triple breakpoint/game point winner to conclude the set, 6-3.
Moving on with the second set, Ferrer continued serving the set opener, rallying down the starter winning, 1-0. Serving second, Dolgopolov evened up the scores right away bagging the second game, 1-1. Continuing next, Ferrer went
splendid as he served-n-broke to take a 3-1 lead over the 23-year-old.
Unable to make his mark, Dolgopolov went down again as the Spaniard bombarded the 23-year-old with two more games straight, serving out game five and breaking in the sixth, to lead the set 5-1. Ukrainian did break back next, however,
could not hold his defence and broke down on his serve, game eight, and lost the second set as well, 6-2.
Destroying the world No.17 in straight sets, Ferrer managed to maintain his unbeaten run in the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event. Spaniard now moves on to the quarter-final stage to play the mighty American, John Isner, as the
two clash out for the semis spot of BNP Paribas Masters 2011.
