David Ferrer trounces Michael Llodra to enter title-round – BNP Paribas Masters 2012
World number five, David Ferrer, trashed the local wild card entrant, Michael Llodra, in straight sets at the BNP Paribas Masters 2012 on Saturday. He notched up a 7-5, 6-3 victory against the 32-year-old to power into the final show down at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters 1000 event held in Paris Bercy, France.
Seeded fourth in this event, Ferrer showed top quality skills to outclass the Frenchman in their third meeting. After botching the victory in one hour and 50 minutes, Ferrer improved to a 3-0 lifetime in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head Series against the left-handed French and moved a step closer towards his 18th career title.
Ferrer stated in an on-court interview after conquering the local star and inching towards his seventh career title:
“I feel good. I am very happy because I am in the final... Of course this year was the best of my career,” said Ferrer. “I never won six titles in one year. If I win tomorrow, it's going to be seven. I'm very happy for that. I won a lot of matches.”
The 30-year-old assertively entered the Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy. He ruled his entire serves after brushing off all 10 breakpoints he came across. Ferrer capitalised on one out of two break chances to his advantage in the last game and pocketed the opener by winning seven games to five.
The Javea native went berserk in the proceeding set. He reeled off the opening four games before gifting away his serve in the fifth game. Ferrer held his composure after that and eventually sealed the set with a 6-3 win. He failed to block the lone breakpoint he came across and converted two out of five break chances to his advantage.
Up next for Ferrer is the Polish qualifier, Jerzy Janowicz.
Ferrer reflected about his next match-up against the Polish qualifier:
“Tomorrow, it's going to be a very difficult match because my opponent, he's playing very, very good. But I will try to do my best for to beat him.”
The 21-year-old stunned Olympic gold medallist, Andy Murray, and the injured Janko Tipsarevic, en route to the title-round.
