David Ferrer turns the tables on Juan Ignacio Chela in third round – Australian Open 2012
World number five, David Ferrer, eased into the fourth round of the Australian Open tournament by defeating the 29th ranked Argentine, Juan Ignacio Chela, in straight sets 7-5, 6-2, 6-1. Ferrer recovered the deficit
of one-match trail with this triumph and levels the head-to-head tally with 2-2.
First time these two players faced off at tennis courts was way back in 2004 during the Brazil Open and the Argentine registered the win at that occasion. In the same year, Chela won another match against Ferrer in the Abierto
Mexicano Telfonica MoviStar tournament. Spanish number two had to wait for three long years to have his revenge as he ousted the Argentine veteran in the US Open quarterfinal in 2007.
It was a crucial match for the Spaniard, as he had to win it to make sure he levels the head-to-head scores and more importantly place a berth in the fourth round of the contest along with the Spanish tennis hero, Rafael Nadal.
The hopes of Spanish fans rest with these two players as they are ought to make it to the semi finals at least considering their rankings.
Chela commenced the proceedings in empathic fashion with two successive breakthroughs upfront to take 3-0 lead. The Spaniard fought back with as successful break serve in the sixth game; another break in the eighth game levelled
the scores at 4-4. Such a remarkable comeback from the Spaniard delighted the crowd that were brought to life with this breathtaking performance. Spaniard ruled the show with another cracking breakthrough in the twelfth game to name the first set.
The Argentine was down and out in the second set as the Spaniard broke serve in the fourth game and once again the eighth game to round off the second set proceedings in quick succession. It was such a cracking turnaround to the
match that the Argentine was completely frustrated by the proceedings. He was furious with himself as the third set kicked off.
With three successive breakthroughs in the third set, Ferrer cruised into the last 16 players of the tournament. It will be interesting to see how far the 29-years-old can go before someone halts his Slam title campaign.
