David Ferriol, Ryan Bailey meet RFL’s disciplinary committee for Grade A offences
David Ferriol of Catalan Dragons and Ryan Bailey of Leeds Rhino have been charged with disciplinary action by the Rugby Football League (RFL) disciplinary committee for the offences committed during the Engage Super League elimination play-offs last weekend.
The duo may sit out of the Super League play-off fixtures lined-up over the upcoming weekend.
Dragon’s Ferriol along with the other Leeds' player, will appear before the RFL disciplinary committee on Tuesday, September 20, for leading into a knee-tackle on Ben Fisher of Hull Kingston Rovers.
This knee tackle was witnessed during the 59th minute of the clash, on Saturday, in the inaugural Super League elimination play-off, which was won 56-6 by the Catalans against Rovers, in Perpignan.
During the same match, Rovers’ prop, Scott Murrell has also been charged with a grade A tackle on Dragon’s prop, Remi Casty.
Bailey of Leeds has been alleged of a grade A offence too, for raising his knee during a tackle with Hulls’ Danny Tickle, during the play-off win at Headingley.
Grade A offence is the mildest degree of offence put down in the rugby rule book, which includes actions like knee-tackle. If the trio is proved guilty of charge, there is a possibility of their missing out on the Super League play-offs scheduled during
the next weekend.
Leeds is to combat against the Huddersfield Giants at the Galpharm Stadium on Friday whereas Catalan Dragons will battle against the Wigan Warriors in DW Stadium on Sunday.
Other players have been cautioned officially by the RFL match review panel for their aggressive performance during the last weekend’s games, which includes; Andy Coley of Wigans and Brent Webb of Leeds. Coley was charged with high tackle on Tom Makinson
during the 11th minute of the encounter against Saint Helens ,whereas, Webb of Leeds was cautioned for hitting with his knees during the 43rd minute of the Hulls FC clash.
The players will have to be extra careful with their future games because their matches will be watched closely. With this formal warning, there is no further room left for any slip-ups.
As the Super League is nearing its wrap-up, the competition is hiking up too, which leaves no room for any miss outs on part of players, who must look into their overall performance carefully.
Ferriol joined in with Dragons of Super League in 2007 and is playing for the club, since then. The player scored a total of 8 tries, with 32 points scored so far during his run with his long term club. The player has been named in the France training squad,
in the Rugby League World Cup 2008.
