David Freese hopeful of St. Louis Cardinals show of strength – MLB News
The St. Louis Cardinals’ third baseman David Freese has expressed his optimism that the team will put a good display this year. He was commenting on the departure of the accomplished and the most identifiable manager of the club, Tony La Russa.
La Russa, who announced his retirement soon after the club won the World Series the last year commanded incredible influence and respect from the team. Serving the club since 1995, he oversaw the two World Series titles, coming in 2006 and 2011.
Now that he is no longer with the team, along with the pitching coach Dave Duncan, there are numerous tasks ahead that the club has to deal with. Nonetheless, David Freese believes it is 25 guys that win a Championship, not one.
"Losing Albert is tough, obviously, but 25 guys win a championship. Not one," third baseman David Freese said. "We're going to have a good team. I think everybody knows that. It's going to be different not having Albert down there, not having Tony down there.
But it's definitely going to be exciting."
There remains no doubt that along with the conspicuous absence of the former manager Tony La Russa, there will be a lot of thoughts about Albert Pujols who signed a nine-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels the past month.
Players who can play a decisive role in the team’s equally strong show this year are many, starting with David Freese to Carlos Beltran. While Freese has a .297 batting average, Carlos Beltran has the impressive average of .300.
Lance Berkman is another player whose .301 average adds to the team’s strength along with that of Yadier Molina, maintaining a .305 record. While they add to the powerfulness of the offence, there are pitchers that the club can heavily rely upon.
From Chris Carpenter who had 11 wins the past year with a 3.45 ERA and Jaime Garcia whose instrumentality could be gauged by 13 wins along with Kyle Lohse’s 14 wins. Not to mention Jake Westbrook who had 12 wins to his credit.
In short, the Cardinals have all the reason in the world to be confident about their performance as they get ready to dominate once again in the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
