David Garrard expects to start against Dallas Cowboys
Jacksonville Jaguars starting quarterback David Garrard will have to pass some neurological tests before he is officially cleared to play, but the Jags QB admits that he feels ready to return after missing last week's game against the Chiefs.
"Once I pass those, then everything will be good."
After sustaining a concussion against the Tennessee Titans two Sundays ago, Garrard failed the tests the Friday before the Chiefs game, but admits that now everything seems fine.
"It was really just a cloud coverage thing. It wasn't partly cloudy. It wasn't semi-cloudy. It was a total cloud coverage. But now I feel great. I feel like my normal self. But we're going to be smart and make sure that it's not you just got over the clouds
but they're still back there lingering or something."
Backup quarterback Todd Bouman, who hadn't played a regular season game since 2005, took over under center in place of Garrard when the Jaguars took on the Chiefs last Sunday. Although the Jags lost 42-20, Garrard and the Jaguars' coaching staff were impressed
with the way Bouman ran the offence.
"I thought it was awesome the way he started out the game, the way he was energized. He looked like a kid out there for a 38-year-old man. He had fun. Things just didn't work out for him there toward the end. Those are things that as an offensive group we're
going to have to overcome. Teams are going to have turnovers, but you've got to be able to overcome them and go down and make a score, and we didn't do that."
Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio has made it clear, however, that as long as Garrard can pass his tests, he will be the one leading the team at quarterback.
