David Garrard still out for Jaguars: Trent Edwards or Todd Bouman should start
After suffering a concussion on Monday night, David Garrard has still not practiced, having stayed at home resting. That means either Trent Edwards or Todd Bouman may get the start in Kansas City this Sunday.
The Jacksonville Jaguars will officially rule Garrard’s status on Friday, but with him missing all practices and team meetings so far, it’s unlikely he’ll get the go.
Trent Edwards also suffered an injury on Monday night in relief for Garrard. Edwards sprained his right thumb after hitting a helmet on his follow through on a throw. It was Edwards’ first in-game action since being released by the Buffalo Bills a month
ago. Edwards has been limited in practice all week.
"I don't know honestly [if Garrard can play]," Edwards said. "It's a day-to-day situation right now. I just have to do as much as I can in the training room to get back to where it needs to be. Hopefully, I'll be where I need to be on Sunday."
If Edwards can’t go, that would mean Bouman would get his first start since 2005. That itself is a tough test, but he’d also be facing a tough Chiefs’ defence that has to be angry after collapsing in a 35-31 loss to Houston last week.
Bouman has run the offence for most of the week. His last start came five years ago, when he started three straight games for the New Orleans Saints. He was released by the Saints following that season and has bounced around the league ever since. He has
had five stints with the Jaguars, never starting a game for them. The Jaguars have already signed him twice this year. The Jaguars signed him just before the start of the season. After releasing him on October 5th, the Jaguars re-signed him this
week, following the injuries to Garrard and Edwards.
"I have no idea [what's going to happen]. I'm not preparing any different than I have the last how many years," Bouman said. "You prepare every week like you're going to play. You've got to be ready to go. You never know when the time is going to come, so
you just wait and see what happens."
