David Gilbert, Bobby Cruickshanks oust Robbie Williams and Lee Spick: Q School 2011 Event 3, Round 2
Englishman, David Gilbert and Scottish cueist, Bobby Cruickshanks, have grabbed their second-round victories after defeating Robbie Williams and Lee Spick, respectively, in the World Snooker qualifying School (Q School) Event three at the World Snooker Academy
in Sheffield, on Thursday, May 26.
The pair has now stormed into the third round, three wins away from the tour card, where they will meet each other for a fourth-round berth. It is going to be a ‘now or never’ affair between both cueists at the World Snooker Academy arena, as they have only
one chance to make through to the professional tour this season.
David Gilbert 4-1 Robbie Williams
Gilbert’s journey in the Q School 2011 has been splendid but unlucky too, as he reached to the quarter-final stages of the previous two events of the qualifying tournament but unfortunately, he lost both matches at the hands of Robin Hull and Tian Pengfei,
respectively. He must have crossed his fingers this time, if he can do it in the third event.
However, he took a 4-1 easy victory against Williams after bouncing back from 0-1 down. He trailed 0-1 after the first frame when a stunning half-century knock of 53 from Williams nudged him 0-83 down.
After that he unsettled his opponent completely as he grabbed four consecutive scrappy frames firing a couple of outstanding clearances of 98 and 140 to clinch the victory at 4-1 with the detailed score line of 0-83 (53), 98 (98)-31, 63-56, 140 (140)-0 and
60-34.
Bobby Cruickshanks 4-2 Lee Spick
Bobby, as compared to Gilbert, did not have a very good event so far as he faced a 3-4 defeat at the hands of Antony Parsons in the second round of event one while in the second event, he crashed out of the round one with 2-4 to Jamie Walker.
However, the 30-year-old Scottish began his third attempt at the Q School Event three with a stunning blow against Lee Spick. He defeated the 31-year-old Spick in a see-saw affair with the help of some impressive knocks of 57, 57 and 62. The overall score
line of the match-up was 70-52, 6-127 (119), 75 (57)-12, 18-71, 71-57 (57), 70 (62)-1.
