David Gilbert all set to face Neil Robertson in second round: 2012 World Snooker Championship
England’s David Gilbert hit the initial stages of the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield after putting up an excellent snooker display in the qualifying session of the mega event at the World Snooker Academy. The Englishman
set up his initial round match against compatriot Martin Gould and defeated him by the score line of 10-8.
Gilbert reached the final round of the qualifying session in last year’s World Snooker Championships but lost their and never got a chance to play in the televised stages of the event. This year he played brilliantly against Stuart Carrington, Jimmy Robertson,
Mike Dunn and Fergal O’Brien to book his place against Martin Gould in the opening round.
Winning over Gould was indeed a result of his hard work in the Championship. He will be facing the former World Snooker Champion from Australia, Neil Robertson in the second round. The match will not be an easy game for the Englishman but he believes he
can beat the Australian potter. The Tamworth Sports Bar potter looks up to the Victorian potter and feels privileged playing against him.
While speaking to the media, Gilbert said, “Neil is one of the favourites for the tournament and rightly so because he's a great player. I know what he can do and I'm going to have to be at the very top of my form to compete and have a chance of going through.”
The 30-year-old added, “He's one of the best players in the world – one of those players who, even when they are not on form, their B game is a good standard. It's another massive match and I'm not thinking that I'm happy just because I've won one game here
– I want to be at the Crucible as long as I can.”
Neil Robertson is one of the toughest opponents in the professional circuit and Gilbert has to perform with the best of his abilities to nudge the Victorian down. The clash seems an easy win for the Thunder from Down Under as he is in full swing so far.
It will be interesting to see how Gilbert manages to put in a good performance against Robertson in the second round of the tournament.
