David Gilbert believes he can beat any challenger: 2012 World Snooker Championship
England’s David Gilbert had a great start in the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield after he hit his first victory of the event beating compatriot Martin Gould in the opening round. He will now be facing the former World
Snooker Champion, Australia’s Neil Robertson in the second round challenge.
However, winning the Last-32 round match against Gould by the score line of 10-8 really has given a new boost to the cueman’s confidence and he now believes that he can defeat any challenger. Gilbert booked his spot in the televised stages of the Championship
after showing excellent snooker skills in the qualifying session where he defeated Stuart Carrington by 10-7, Jimmy Robertson 10-9, Mike Dunn by 10-6 and Fergal O’Brien 10-4.
Facing the 2010 World Snooker Champion and the 2012 Masters winner, Robertson will not be easy for the Englishman as the Victorian cueman has been outstanding at the baize throughout the season. However, Gilbert is determined for the challenge and feels
confident to win the game and make his second appearance of the Championship worth watching.
During his post match interview with World Snooker, Gilbert said, “I think I've got a chance against anybody, I know my record and results don't show that, but I think I can beat anybody. But I know I can also lose to anybody, whether that's in the first
round of the qualifiers or here.”
The 30-year-old added, “I know I'm a massive underdog whoever I go up against, but it'll be great to play in the three sessions and I'll just try my best. I've probably got one of the worst attitudes in the game, I don't practise. I haven't lived the lifestyle
the top players do.”
Gilbert lost his place in the professional circuit at the end of the last season and all hopes ended for him but he Englishman struggled hard to clinch back his professional place. He played terrifically in the third event of the 2011 World Snooker Qualifying
School (Q School) and won the 2011-12 Snooker Season pro tour ticket. It will be interesting to see how Gilbert manages to carry his winning momentum forward in the Championship.
