David Gilbert defeats Judd Trump at World Snooker Academy in Sheffield: PTC Event 1
World Snooker Q School qualifier, David Gilbert defeated Judd Trump in the first event of Players Tour Championship (PTC) at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield on Monday, June 20. Trump could
not bounce back after he grabbed the only frame of the game and crashed out by 4-1.
Gilbert qualified for the main tour after the third event of World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) and started his new season with a sensational 4-1 win over the World Snooker Championship 2011
runner-up, Trump. Gilbert will next meet Jamie Cope in the next round and Trump will be looking forward to plan for the upcoming Australian Goldfields Open 2011.
The 22-year-old Trump enjoyed an outstanding last season, grabbing some excellent victories including a Euro PTC event and his first ever ranking title, the Bank of Beijing China Open 2011. The Bristolian
reached the final match of 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship against the world number two, John Higgins, but lost to the Scotsman 18-15.
His tremendous performance last season, brought him into world’s Top 16 at number nine. He finished the last season with 71.9 percent match winning ratio along with a 59.2 percent frame winning rate.
In other matches of Round 1 at PTC Event one, The Rocket, Ronnie O’Sullivan ousted Mike Hallett 4-2. The sensational O’Sullivan trailed 0-2 down to Hallett in the beginning, but bounced back later
and took four straight frames to ensure his victory.
The 35-year-old O’Sullivan had a controversial last season as he tried to quit the game a couple of times but then reversed his decision. He nearly withdrew from the World Snooker Championship at
the Crucible Theatre, but after visiting a sports psychiatrist in Dr Steve Peters just before the event, O’Sullivan finally decided to participate in the event.
The Essex Exocet, O’Sullivan has grabbed a strong position in the event and seems to be in formidable form. The former three-time World Snooker Champion will be hoping for a better show this year
so that he can climb up the ranking ladder. O’Sullivan currently sits at the number 11 spot in World Snooker rankings.
