David Gilbert hopes for thrilling game against Martin Gould in 2012 World Snooker Championship
After displaying some outstanding snooker skills in the qualifying session of the 2012 Word Snooker Championship, England’s David Gilbert was able to book his place in the Last 32 round of the Championship where he will be meeting with compatriot Martin
Gould. The Englishman is hoping for a thrilling contest with Gould as he has played him once before in his career.
Gilbert’s qualifying session run was impressive as the English potter clinched four match wins to book his place in the opening round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship which is the final and biggest event of the 2011-12 Snooker Season. Gilbert started
from the first round qualifiers and breezed into the first stage of the event after ousting Stuart Carrington by 10-7, Jimmy Robertson by 10-9, Mike Dunn by 10-6 and Fergal O'Brien by the score line of 10-4.
After reserving his place in the televised stages of the tournament especially after putting such an astounding snooker display, it is crucial for Gilbert to keep his run going because he is aiming to improve his rankings. Last time he played against Gould
in the qualifying session of the 2009 World Snooker Championship where he lost to him but this time the Englishman feels confident of good results against Gould.
Speaking to the media, Gilbert said, “Gould and I had a massive game three or four years ago in the world qualifiers – we were both playing really well and whoever won went into the top 48 and was looking like they would go places. If you said I was going
to draw Martin, I would have taken it, definitely, but I'm sure he'll be equally happy with the draw.”
He added, “I'm not coming out with any silly comments like I'm going to win the tournament or anything like that. But if I can carry on the form I've started to show, I can certainly win this first game and we'll look at the next one after that.”
The match up will be quite interesting because whoever wins will be facing the winner of first round match between former World Snooker Champions Neil Robertson and Ken Doherty.
