David Gilbert makes to professional tour after ousting Allan Taylor: World Snooker Q School Event 3
Englishman, David Gilbert, has finally made his way to the professional tour of this season after he defeated compatriot, Allan Taylor, in their quarter-final clash of the World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) 2011 Event three at the World Snooker Academy,
in Sheffield.
The 29-year-old Gilbert faced a bit of bad luck in the previous two events despite reaching the quarter-finals, he could not win the tour card. In the first event, he trashed Steve Judd, James Welsh, Martin O'Donnell, and Reanne Evans to setup a clash with
Robin Hull in the final stage, but he lost 4-3 to Hull.
After winning the tour card, Gilbert said, “It's been a long couple of weeks. In the first event against Robin Hull I was 3-1 up and in the balls to win, but got a kick on the yellow and missed. I was 30 seconds away from winning, and 20 minutes later I'd
lost. I was in bits after that.”
He began the second event with a new determination and hope with his first-round match against Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, where he started his winning streak, as he took the match 4-0. After that, he defeated Craig Steadman 4-1, Martin O'Donnell 4-0 and Stephen
Rowlings 4-0 in the second, third and fourth round, respectively, to go head-to-head with Tian Pengfei in the quarter-final, where he lost 2-4.
The Derby potter, Gilbert, tested his luck again in the third event. He got a walk-over in the first round against Simon Bedford and after that he made a strong run beating Robbie Williams, Bobby Cruickshanks and Brijesh Damani to enter the quarter-final.
He cruised into the pro tour after he beat Allan Taylor 4-1.
Gilbert expressed his feelings after winning the match and said, “I realise now how much I love snooker and I want to give it a proper go. I'm going to enter all of the events, and the way the rankings work now, you can see yourself making progress within
the season. I'm going to knock the work on the head now and put everything into snooker."
In other matches, Sheffield’s own Adam Duffy also got the tour card after trashing David Gray 4-2 in their quarter-final on Saturday, May 28, at the World Snooker Academy.
