David Gilbert targets world’s top 48 after grabbing main tour card at World Snooker Q School 2011
Englishman, David Gilbert finally grabbed the tour card in the third event of the World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) 2011 and is now targeting a spot in the top 48 of the world. The Tamworth potter will go
pro again this season and hopes to go into the competition with a well thought game-plan and a positive attitude.
The 29-year-old Gilbert tried his luck in the first two events of the Q School but could not make it to the pro tour as he crashed out of both events right in the final stage. That shook his confidence a bit but the
Derby-born potter did not lose hope and managed to grab the tour card eventually in the third event, displaying great snooker skills.
While speaking to the local reporters, the tour card winner said, “I'm really pleased to get back on and I'm going to give it a proper go – I've knocked work on the head and I'm going to play as much as I can. I know
the mistakes I've made – my attitude has been wrong the last couple of years and I haven't practiced enough or with the right players.”
He added, “I took snooker for granted for a long time and haven't tried hard enough but hopefully this is a new start. Now I expect to get in the top 64 and my target is the top 48 if I play as well as I can. I don't
want to be lurking down the bottom of the rankings. I want to be back on the telly.”
Along with Gilbert, 11 other players also qualified for the 2011-12 season tour from all three events of Q School. The qualifiers include David Grace, Li Yan, Robin Hull, Adam Wicheard, Kurt Maflin, David Morris,
Andrew Norman, Simon Bedofrd, Stuart Carrington, Adam Duffy and Tian Pengfei.
The new World Snooker Season starts from June 20 with the Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event one, that will run until June 22 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield followed by the qualifiers of the very first
ranking event held in Australia, the Australian Goldfields Open 2011, from June 27 to 30 at the same venue.
