Manchester United Chief Executive, David Gill, has revealed that the club will undergo a busy summer transfer activity after winning their record 19th league title last week.
With Edwin Van Der Sar set to retire at the end of the 2010/11 season and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-Scholes-c29394’s
future also remains under cloud as he has still not penned an extension to his contract, which is due to expire at the end of the ongoing season.
Gill admitted that the club have been working hard for the last 12 months to find replacements for the positions which they need to fill. The 53-year-old admitted that the club have identified their targets and are close to finalising a deal with them.
Gill said, "Gary [Neville] has retired already and Edwin [van der Sar] is retiring. We've been doing a lot of work on a replacement for Edwin to determine who we want to replace him. I think we're well on the way with that. There are other areas as well
as with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 [Scholes] still to decide what he wants to do.”
Gill hailed manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s record in the transfer window in the past and his continued ability to gel the young players with the experienced ones.
He added: "I think it'll be slightly busier than normal but that's good. What http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 has done so successfully over the last 25 years is to reinvent the team slowly by bringing in new players and integrating them with established stars. That's what we'll continue
to do.”
United have been linked with a host of names to replace the retiring players and Atletico Madrid goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wesley-Sneijder-c36799, are the top targets for the Red Devils.
Reports in the media suggest that United have agreed a fee with Atletico Madrid to sign De Gea in the summers. Ferguson is also looking to offload several of his players in the summers with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gabriel-Obertan-c14324 leading the list.
