David Goffin, Andrea Arnaboldi proceed to the quarterfinals – Trani Cup 2011 CH
David Goffin defeats Maxime Authom 6-3, 6-1
World number 207 David Goffin of Belgium knocked out world number 309, compatriot Maxime Authom in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 in the second round at the Trani Cup in Trani, Italy on Wednesday. The match lasted for just an hour and
twelve minutes.
Goffin broke his opponent in the opening game of the first set and held his serve in the next game to take a 2-0 lead. The Belgian broke again in the seventh game to go ahead 5-2 but he lost his serve in the very next game to bring
the score to 3-5. However, Goffin broke again in the eighth game and won the set 6-3.
Authom made a good start in the second set as he broke Goffin in the first game but he was broken back immediately to level the score at 1-1. It was all Goffin show after that as he clinched five games in a row, breaking his countryman
in the fourth and sixth game to bag the set 6-1. The 20-year-old fired seven aces and won 62 percent of the first return points in the match. The Belgian converted six of the nine break points he received in the match.
Goffin will play wild card entrant Andrea Arnaboldi of Italy in the quarterfinals.
Andrea Arnaboldi beats Stefano Galvani 6-4, 7-6(6)
Italian Andrea Arnaboldi, ranked 261st in the world, prevailed over world number 202, countryman Stefano Galvani in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(6) to reach the quarterfinals.
Arnaboldi and Galvani held their serve in the first eight games of the first set, levelling the score at 4-4. Arnaboldi broke his opponent in the ninth game and served out the set at 5-4. The Italian delivered 62 percent of the
first serves and two aces in the opening set. The 23-year-old won 81 percent of the first service points and capitalised on the only break point opportunity he created on Galvani’s serve in the opening set.
Galvani came back in the second set, breaking his countryman in the second game and holding his serve in the third game to race to a 3-0 lead. Arnaboldi broke back in the seventh game and won his next service game to square off
the score at 4-4. Galvani and Arnaboldi held their serve in the next four games to take the set to a tie-break. The Italian captured a late mini-break to seal the tie-break 8-6. The match lasted for an hour and 45 minutes.
