David Goffin qualify for the second round – Orleans Challenger 2012 CH
Second seeded, David Goffin, qualified for the second round after rallying past the local competitor, Nicolas Renavand, at the Orleans Challenger, France. He gave a straight sets defeat, 6-3, 6-3, in nearly one
hour on the eve of Monday.
Ranked 335th in the South Airways ATP World Rankings, Renavand, was unable to uphold his initial serve, giving his rival the opportunity to clinch the initial two games to mark a 2-love
lead, in the opener. Renavand levelled down the score line to 2-all in the fourth game but Goffin regained his upper hand in the very next game. Both players gave each other tough competition but the Belgian professional concluded the set 6-3 lead.
The 30-year-old, Renavand, fired three aces but also double fault three times. He displayed 59 percent initial serve accuracy, with 11 of 17 first and four of 12 second delivery points. He even availed the single
break point presented to him, in comparison his opponent could only capitalize three of seven presented to him. The Belgian professional had 54 percent first serve precision, with nine of 13 first and six of 11 second delivery points.
In the next set, the French veteran confidently drew the first blood and sustained his lead all the way through. He did not receive a single break in the set but instead he busted the Belgian professional’s serve
in the fourth game. Renavand proved ineffective against his challenger and was unable to tackle the match pressure. As the game progressed, he just managed to secure two points and Goffin grabbed the last two games to close the set with a 6-3 win.
The 21-year-old Belgian displayed an average initial serve accurateness of 52 percent, bagging away nine of 15 first and 12 of 14 second serve points. From the two serve breaks bestowed, he just won one, whereas
his contestant could not secure any. In contrast to that, Renavand secured 55 percent initial serve accuracy, pocketing away nine of 11 first and five of nine second delivery points.
For the next match Goffin will face the winner of the match between the German, Nils Langer and the American, Steve Johnson.
