David Goffin rallied past Josselin Ouanna in the semi-finals – Orleans Challenger 2012 CH
Ranked 55th in the ATP World Tour Rankings, David Goffin, rallied past the Frenchman, Josselin Ouanna, in the semi-finals of the Orleans Challenger 2012 held at the hard courts of France.
The Belgian professional stamped down his 6-4, 7-6(3) win on Saturday.
Both the tennis professionals encountered each other for the second time at the hard courts of France. In the year 2011, Goffin defeated the local rival again on his home ground at the France F19 and successfully
journeyed into the final.
The 26-year-old, Ouanna, held his initial serve in the opener but was unable to strike any lead. The Belgian professional clinched the opportunity and drew the first blood by breaking his rival’s serve in the
third game. After that point, the two contenders held their initial serves and struggled hard to secure the top spot. Goffin confidently sustained his front and he grabbed the last two games, marking the set closure with a 6-4 score line.
The French senior, Ouanna, fired five aces onto his rival but displayed average initial serve accuracy, with just 11 of 16 first and nine of 14 second delivery points. Despite of his good stats he was unable
to score the lead as he could only capitalize on a single serve break of the four bestowed on him. On the other hand, the Belgian professional double faulted five times; with 57 percent initial serve accuracy. He pocketed away 18 of 23 first and eight of 17
second delivery points.
The sequent set was a tougher deal for the two participants as they both desperately battled to win it. Initially, Goffin dominated the game plan similar to the previous set, however, the pattern could not continue
forever. The right-hander local levelled the score line twice towards the end but terminated with a 6-7(3) loss, after a close tiebreaker.
The world number 130, Ouanna, bombarded his challenger with 10 aces and committed double faults five times. He had a higher initial serve precision of 59 percent, bagging away 23 of 27 first and six of 19 second
delivery points. The 21-year-old Belgian had 49 percent initial serve presentation, with 14 of 18 first and 13 of 19 second serve points. Unfortunately, he could only snatch one of seven break points and similarly, his opponent secured one of two.
