David Haye: I am happy with what I have done in the ring – Boxing News
Former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye is eyeing a showdown against current WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko. Haye, who recently knocked out Dereck Chisora in the fifth round, wants to end his career if he does not get a title shot against Vitali.
“I'm happy with what I've done in the ring. It's nice to finish on such a high,” said Haye in his recent interview with BBC Sport.
When asked if he wants to hang his gloves after the fight against Chisora, Haye said, “If that was my last fight then it's a fight I'm very proud of.”
Haye came out of retirement to face Chisora, with the motive of facing Vitali Klitschko after scoring a victory. Since now Haye has sucesfuly finished phase 1 of his ambition, he now wants a match against Vitali.
“I'd like the opportunity to get in there and win Vitali's title, but if he doesn't want to fight me I understand that - I'm a dangerous guy,” Haye insisted when asked why he is eyeing to face Vitali Klitschko.
Haye retired in October last year following his defeat to Vitali’s younger brother Wladimir Klitschko.
“If a fight with Vitali happens down the line then fantastic. If it doesn't, then I've been the undisputed cruiserweight champion and the heavyweight champion of the world,” said Haye who is happy to end his career with a victory against Chisora.
Vitali Klitschko is looking forward to retire after his last fight to be held in September probably. Earlier this year, news of Vitali Klitschko facing Manuel Charr as his last opponent emerged but the Ukrainian fighter soon declined it saying it is just
a rumour.
Haye has been wanting to face Vitali Klitschko for quite some time. Now, after learning that the Ukrainian champion will be hanging up his gloves soon, Haye is even more eager to go face to face with him. Haye wants to be Vitali’s last opponent and wants
to take the WBC heavyweight title from him. However, Vitali’s camp has nothing to say yet regarding Haye’s demands.
If not Vitali, then Haye will be hanging up his gloves once again.
