David Haye: I never turned down Vitali’s fight offer – Boxing News
Last week, Bernd Boente, manager of Vitali Klitschko, revealed that he had made an offer to David Haye for a fight but Haye turned it down. According to Boente, Haye did not want to fight Vitali and so he turned down the offer. However, David Haye has disregarded
the statements from Boente, saying he never got a fight offer from Vitali’s camp.
Haye retaliated saying, “It makes absolutely no sense for me to turn down a fight I desperately want. Remember, the whole idea behind going ahead with this Chisora fight was that a victory may then lead to a fight with Vitali Klitschko. That was my plan,
my reason for returning to the ring. I want to fight on July 14 and then again in September, and have been telling people this for months now.”
Even Adam Booth, Haye’s trainer and manager, endorsed Haye’s statements by saying, “A few weeks ago I received a first draft contract from K2/KMG [the Klitschkos], as a formal offer for the fight between David and Vitali.”
He added that after Haye’s fight against Chisora was decided, he informed Shelly Finkel that Haye is ready to go head to head with Vitali. However, he added, they received no reply from Vitali’s camp. He further said that Haye is ready to fight Vitali in
September and if Vitali is ready, they will move on with the fight.
David Haye is currently scheduled to face Dereck Chisora in July. The fight has received a lot of criticism from the entire boxing fraternity since the fight is not being sanctioned by the BBBC. Dereck Chisora’s license was revoked by the BBBC earlier this
year after his public brawl with Haye and his misbehaviour towards Vitali Klitschko and Wladimir Klitschko. However, Chisora has obtained a fighting license from Luxembourg in order to fight Haye.
Yesterday, Wladimir Klitschko, Vitali’s younger brother, said that without a BBBC license, Vitali would not fight Haye. It should be noted here that Haye announced retirement last year and gave up his BBBC license. Therefore, the Klitschko camp wants him
to obtain a BBBC license before thinking about a fight with Vitali.
