David Haye: Vitali may not fight this summer – Boxing News
David Haye believes Vitali Klitschko’s advisers are trying to keep him away from a summer heavyweight bout against him, as they fear this might impede his political aspirations.
Last weekend, Vitali Klitschko said he wants to go head to head with David Haye to defend his World Boxing Council heavyweight title. His statement read, “I have offered Dave Haye the opportunity to fight for the world title. I need Haye to say ‘yes’. I
would be happy to knock him out.”
Vitali’s statement came in after his younger brother Wladimir knocked out French boxer Jean Marc-Mormeck in the fourth round in Dusseldorf to retain his WBA and IBF titles.
On the other hand, Vitali and Wladimir’s manager Bernd Boente came up saying that Haye’s demands are absurd. He said Haye is demanding a guarantee along with 50 percent of the pay-per-view proceeds. In light of what Boente said, it can be assumed that the
fight is not yet confirmed.
Even David Haye is a bit unsure about what will happen. In his interview to Telegraph Sport, Haye expressed his fears saying that Vitali’s political aspirations might be a hindrance to their match. His exact words were, “I think Vitali wants to fight me,
because he has got a lot of pride. But I think he’s had a lot of money invested in him to become the mayor of Kiev, and potentially the president of Ukraine, and his advisers, and the people who do his negotiating aren’t going to let Vitali’s ego get in the
way of something that could potentially cost him tens of millions of pounds.”
Haye further said that Vitali’s political career is keeping him busy, which is the main reason why he wants to fight boxers like Chisora, since he can easily knock them down. He added that right now Vitali is not interested in fighting and that Ukrainian
people do not want Vitali to lose to him.
Finally, Haye revealed that both the fighters had come to an agreement during December 2012 and both of them asked for the contracts to be made but it never happened.
