David Haye: Wladimir or Vitali Klitschko can make me come out of retirement – Boxing news
Former World Boxing Association world heavyweight champion, David Haye, has revealed the Klitschko brothers hold the key to his future, as he said he will not fight anyone without the Klitschko surname.
Haye, who was more commonly known as the Hayemaker, officially walked away from the sport in October 2011 on his 31st birthday but he has now admitted another world title shot would be enough for him to make a comeback.
“You never know, there's always another chapter, whether it's me retiring and you never hear from me again, or because I go out there and become a big success with the acting,” Haye said. “It's the end of one chapter and there are plenty of chapters to come
in the rest of my life.”
Haye, who held a record of winning 25 of his 27 professional fights, with 23 of them coming by the way of a knockout, fought Wladimir ‘Dr. Steelhammer’ Klitschko in a much-anticipated fight on July 2, 2011 at the Hamburg’s Football Arena in Germany.
It was a one of the biggest fights in British history as it had all the WBA, IBF, WBO Super, IBO and Ring Magazine champion belts on the line and Haye declared a lot ahead of the fight. However, on the fight night he lost to Wladimir via unanimous decision.
Haye was desperate for a rematch afterwards but he was turned down by the 6 ft 6” Ukrainian giant because Haye did not have anything to bring to the table.
However, since their fight generated a lot of money Haye thinks Wladimir will call him back for another big payday. Therefore, the 31-year-old brash Londoner, Haye, claimed the Klitschko brothers need him more than he needs them.
“Only time will tell whether the Klitschkos need me more than I need them. But it depends what they want out of boxing. If they want guaranteed easy victories then they can do what they've always done but if they want a tough challenge you'd think they would
want to beat down my door,” Haye added.
All that is left to see is whether the Klitschko brothers will call Haye for another big fight or not.
