David Haye backs Amir Khan, wants him to return – Boxing News
After knocking out Dereck Chisora in the fifth round, David Haye has regained his confidence and fun club. The Briton is proud of his victory but at the same time grieved over fellow Briton fighter Amir Khan’s knockout loss to Danny Garcia.
Nevertheless, Haye has not abandoned Khan as Carl Froch did. Instead, being a senior fighter, Haye has shown support towards Khan, claiming the former WBA champion has a lot left in him to offer.
“When you're fighting at the top, top level you can't win every time. He's still got seven, eight years at the top level. He just needs to take some time out and relax. It seems like since the Olympics he's been in fight after fight and it's a heavy schedule.
Sometimes you need to chill out for a while,” said Haye who is now eyeing a career ending fight against Vitali Klitschko.
He added, “The shot Garcia landed on him was a fantstic shot but it was a shot he threw maybe fifteen, twenty times prior to hitting him with it and had always missed by a long way.”
Haye agrees with Khan’s trainer Freddie Roach, believing it was Khan’s own blunder that gave Garcia to opportunity to strike him down. According to Haye, Khan left himself in a position that allowed Garcia to target the shot.
Haye spoke about Khan’s previous knockout loss to Breidis Prescott, recalling the Briton made a strong comeback even when people were writing him off. Haye remembers how Khan went ahead to Marcos Maidana, who is considered among the best pound for pound
punchers in the world.
For now, Haye wants Khan to relax and kill time until the opportune moment.
While talking about himself, Haye expressed he wants to go head to head against Vitali Klitschko, the WBC world heavyweight champion. However, the Briton believes Vitali might not take the fight, as the Ukrainian fighter see him as a potential threat.
Haye is hoping for the best. He is satisfied with his career and legacy and does not bear any regrets in his heart. With or without Vitali, Haye will walk out of the sport with a smile.
