David Haye claims organisers did not send him the right way because they wanted to unsettle him
David ‘The Hayemaker’ Haye has claimed he was forced to enter the ring by walking down the crowd instead of the proper way, which is to come through the barriers and it was all to unsettle him ahead of the fight.
The 30-year-old brash Londoner, Haye, lost his WBA world heavyweight championship belt against the IBF, WBO and IBO world heavyweight champion, Wladimir Klitschko on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Hamburg’s Imtech Arena through a unanimous points decision.
It was a mega unification bout for the heavyweight titles of the world and therefore had a crowd of over 60,000 people.
Haye told the media the management was not allowing him to bring his own security. Haye believes there were a lot of people against him in the crowd who wanted Wladimir to win the bout and therefore he thinks if he had walked through the crowd without his
own security, the people would have crushed him.
While speaking on his inclusion, he remarked, “When we came out on the ring walk we thought we were going to go down the path with the barriers but for some reason we were directed by his people to walk down the crowd. They tried to tell us we couldn't bring
our own security, and made a song and dance about it. But we insisted on it and if I hadn't had my security I would have been squashed.”
In the end Haye, who has won 25 of his 27 fights including 23 by the way of a knockout, commented on a rematch against Klitschko. He admitted the fact that now the ball lies in Wladimir’s court, as he has no more titles with him to claim a rematch.
Haye also added Wladimir has always picked up easy guys for him and he is not the one to go for the tough guys.
“Whether Wladimir would want to do it with me again I don't know. He has shown in the past he's the not the sort of guy to pick the toughest of challengers,” he said.
