David Haye comes out of retirement to fight Vitali Klitschko – Boxing news
Former World Boxing Association world heavyweight champion, David Haye, is in negotiations with the current World Boxing Council world heavyweight champion, Vitali Klitschko, in order to set up their mega showdown in March 2012.
The brash Londoner, Haye, who is more commonly known as the Hayemaker, walked away from the sport on his 31st birthday after losing to Vitali’s younger brother Wladimir in their much anticipated unification bout for the heavyweight titles on
July 2, 2011 at the Hamburg’s Football Stadium in Germany.
However, Haye, who carried a record of winning 25 of his 27 professional fights, with 23 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, has now confirmed his chances of coming back in the ring are pretty much there.
Haye told the BBC’s Hardtalk programme, “I haven't seen a contract but there's definitely talks going on.”
Haye stated, “I said I’d want to fight Vitali, the big brother of Wladimir, who beat me in my last fight. They’re the only guys I’d consider coming out of retirement for. I said before I retired I would love that fight and there's a date in March that's
already been talked about.”
In the end however Haye mentioned that nothing is certain as of yet.
“Whether it happens or not I don’t know,” he said.
Haye’s unification bout with the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO Super, IBO & Ring Magazine Champion, Wladimir Klitschko, was one of the biggest bouts in the recent British boxing history and therefore it had a lot of hype ahead of it.
Moreover, Haye vowed he will beat Wladimir to redeem the heavyweight division but on the fight night, the Brit lost via unanimous points’ decision.
Nevertheless, Haye always said that he will come out of his retirement if he gets a chance with any of the Klitschko brothers, as he wants to avenge his defeat.
Let’s see if Dr. Steelhammer, Vitali, who carries a record of winning 43 of his 45 professional fights, with 40 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, really sign a contract with Haye because their fight will certainly be an explosive one.
