David Haye concedes Wladimir Klitschko is the best fighter on the planet – Boxing news
After losing his WBA world heavyweight title against Wladimir Klitschko on Saturday, July 2, 2011, David Haye has conceded Dr. Steelhammer is the best fighter in the world.
The Hayemaker, Haye lost his WBA world heavyweight title against Klitschko through a unanimous points’ decision in Hamburg’s Imtech Arena.
The brash Londoner, Haye, who added a second defeat to his record, did a lot of talking ahead of his biggest bout. However, after lasting all 12 rounds against Dr. Steelhammer on the fight night, he now feels the 6 ft 6.5” Ukrainian giant is the best fighter
on the planet.
Though the 30-year-old, Haye, claimed he had some problems with his toe and therefore was not able to land his Hayemaker, he said it was not the reason as Klitschko was the better man on the day.
The most flattering statement from Haye however was when he revealed if he was 100 percent fit even then he might have lost against Wladimir.
While speaking on his inclusion, he remarked, “I couldn’t push off my right foot but that’s not the reason I lost the fight – he was better than me, pure and simple. I came off second best and even if I’d been 100 per cent fit I might not have won. He’s
the best fighter on the planet right now.”
In the end Haye, who has won 25 of his 27 fights including 23 by the way of a knockout, stated he is not very frustrated with himself, as he has realised Wladimir is far superior to him in all the departments. However, he was happy as he believes he gave
Wladimir one of the toughest bouts.
He said, “I’m very frustrated with myself. A huge part of that is that Wladimir is so good, but I gave him one of the hardest fights of his career and I believe I could beat him given the opportunity.”
Let’s see if Haye gets a rematch against Wladimir who has all the titles with him while Haye does not have anything left in his bag.
