David Haye denies rumours, says Audley Harrison can believe what he wants
WBA heavyweight titlist David Haye has starkly denied upcoming opponent Audley Harrison’s claims that he was floored in a recent sparring session and insists it will be Harrison who'll taste canvas when they meet November 13.
Harrison made headlines when he claimed to have heard from Haye’s sparring partner Tony Thompson that Thompson had knocked Haye down in a casual sparring atmosphere.
Haye, himself not one to miss a chance at controversial talk, insinuated that Harrison was looking for anything to gain the mental advantage in a fight he simply won’t win.
Haye also insisted it was he who was winning the mental fight. “I know what I’m planning to do,” he recently said. “I’ve trained hard and I know Audley inside out. I’ve trained with him, sparred with him, seen him in the amateurs and seen him in the professionals.
I’ve talked to him behind closed doors and I know all about his demons. I know how to get inside his head. I know how to mess him up in the ring.”
Harrison is a former Olympic gold medalist who many believe as a professional fighter has not lived up to expectations following amateur success. He vows to change that when he faces Haye.
The two will tee off at the MEN Arena in Manchester in front of some 20,000 fans. The fight will also be broadcast in high-definition 3D for the first time ever.
Haye said that if Harrison needs to believe he was knocked down in sparring, he should believe it, but it won’t do him any good. “Tell him I got knocked down 500 times if that makes him feel better. He's going to get in the ring with me and he's going to
get knocked out.”
He continued: "No matter what rumour he heard from our training camp, I might have heard he looked tremendous in his training camp. Maybe he's knocking out this or that sparring partner, well great, good for him. I wish him all the luck in the world because
he's going to need it.”
