David Haye feels he has let his family, friends and himself down – Boxing news
David ‘The Hayemaker’ Haye, who recently lost his WBA world heavyweight title to the IBF, WBO and IBO world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, admits he has let a lot of people down.
Klitschko won the bout between the two pugilists on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the Imtech Arena in Hamburg, Germany in front of a crowd of over 60,000 people.
The 30-year-old brash Londoner, Haye, talked a lot ahead of the biggest bout of his career, which also was one of the biggest in the British history. He claimed he will knockout Dr. Steelhammer Klitschko within six rounds and will take his head off with
his ‘Hayemaker.’
However, all of statements were proved wrong as he lost the fight to Klitschko on a unanimous points’ decision.
Haye, who added a second defeat to his career, admitted his ego and pride is something which is hurting him now. He added one can live with a physical pain but emotional pain is something which never stops hurting.
While speaking on his inclusion, Haye said, “It is my ego and pride that is hurting more than anything else. You can live with the physical pain but it is the emotional pain that cuts deepest.”
Haye, who has won 25 of his 27 fights including 23 by the way of a knockout, remarked he always talks a lot before his fights but he fulfils what he says. However, he said he had failed to do so this time and therefore he feels he has let a lot of his fans
down including himself and his family.
“You know what I'm like before the fight, I give it all the big mouth. I talk the talk and normally I walk the walk. On Saturday night I didn't walk the walk and I'm gutted about that. I feel like I've let a lot of people down. I feel like I've let myself,
family, everybody down,” said Haye.
