David Haye hoping for a rematch with Wladimir Klitschko before he turns 31 – Boxing news
Former WBA world heavyweight champion David Haye, who recently lost his title to IBF, WBO and IBF world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, has said that he is hoping for a rematch against Klitschko before he turns 31.
David ‘The Hayemaker’ Haye lost his world heavyweight championship belt last Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the Imtech Arena in Hamburg, Germany against Klitschko through a unanimous points’ decision in a unification bout for the heavyweight titles.
The 30-year-old brash Londoner, Haye, is now looking forward desperately to avenge his loss but he announced his retirement ahead of the fight, as he said he does not have any plans to stay in the sport after his 31st birthday in October 2011.
Therefore, Haye, who added a second defeat to his career, is hoping he gets a date before his birthday.
Haye knows now he does not have any titles with him to claim for a rematch and the ball is in Wladimir’s court. He told the media he tried his best but has failed to fulfil his promise of beating Klitschko but on the same note, he claimed he can change the
things, provided he gets another chance against the 6 ft 6.5” Ukrainian giant, Klitschko.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I'd have to seriously consider it. I'm just hoping if there is a date that pops up, it is before October 13.”
“But beggars can't be choosers. In an ideal world it would be before then and I can stick to it (retirement plan) but if it is after then... I've made a lot of promises that I've broken but, then again, I made a lot of promises before this fight and didn't
produce the goods,” added Haye.
Haye, who did a lot of talking against Klitschko before the match, has also admitted now that Dr. Steelhammer, Wladimir Klitschko, is one of the best heavyweights in the world.
“I'd love the opportunity to challenge Wladimir again for his titles that he rightly deserves to have. As the challenger, given the opportunity again, I'm pretty sure I could do things differently,” said Haye.
