David Haye says pulling out of Wladimir Klitschko fight was not an option for him – Boxing news
Former World Boxing Association World Heavyweight Champion, David Haye, has insisted he had no other options except going through his mega-fight with Wladimir Klitschko which was held on July 2, 2011 at the Hamburg’s Football Stadium in Germany.
“It was never an option to pull out of the fight no matter what was wrong,” ‘The Hayemaker’ told Press Association Sport. “I was never going to pull out.”
Haye’s bout with the current WBA (Super), IBF, WBO Super, IBO and Ring Magazine Champion, Wladimir Klitschko, was one of the biggest bouts in British history. It had a lot of hype ahead of it but Haye, who vowed he will redeem the heavyweight division by
beating the 6 ft 6” Ukrainian giant, lost it via unanimous points’ decision on the fight night. The 31-year-old brash Londoner afterwards claimed he had a broken toe due to which he could not launch his Hayemaker punch.
Many out there have been questioning Haye why did not he pull himself out, if he was not 100 percent injury free. Thus, Haye has finally responded to the critics by revealing that pulling out of such a big bout was never an option for him.
Haye stated there are certain fights a boxer can pull out from but in some fights, he can simply not.
“I had to go through with it. It was not an option. Certain fights you can pull out of and certain fights you can't, and in that fight it was not an option,” Haye added.
However, in the end Haye, who officially walked away from the sport in October 2011 on his 31st birthday, admitted he will have to live with the embarrassment he had after losing to Klitschko.
Haye said, “It didn't go my way against Klitschko. It was one of those fights. I lost a points decision and it is what it is. I did the best I could and I've got to live with that.”
Haye, who held a record of winning 25 of his 27 professional fights, with 23 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, has hinted that he will make a comeback, if he gets a world title shot with any of the Klitschko brothers.
Therefore, let’s see if Wladimir or Vitali give Haye another chance against them.
