David Haye speculates on Dereck Chisora's chances against Wladimir Klitschko
David Haye has offered his thoughts on Dereck Chisora versus Wladimir Klitschko.
Following signing for a December 11 bout against Klitschko, the inexperienced heavyweight Chisora is stealing WBA titlist Haye’s headline, even with Haye hyping an upcoming November 13 fight against European champion Audley Harrison.
Chisora, the little-known British and Commonwealth heavyweight champ, has nabbed many British fans from Haye by doing what Haye himself would not. Chisora has signed up to fight a Klitschko.
"I'm quite pleased for him," Haye recently said. "To get a world-title fight that soon is quite something. I'm not sure who he's beaten to deserve it, but good luck to him. I just hope he's getting a big [pay] day and can give a good
account of himself for five or six rounds and throw some punches.  Nothing in his career so far suggests he has anything to win this fight, but it takes only one shot, so fingers crossed. But even if he gets knocked out in a couple of rounds he can say, 'It's
no big deal, I just didn't have the experience'."
When asked if Haye felt that he should be fighting the Klitschkos, or if he felt ousted by a lesser man, he replied no, and claimed that if the contract resembles anything they presented to him, Chisora will be tied up in Germany
for the next few years.
There is a contractual clause on Chisora’s contract that indicates should he beat Klitschko, he will automatically find himself in a second title bout with brother Vitali for the WBC belt. A second win, in that instance, for Chisora,
would give him three of four major heavyweight titles.
Chisora has a skim 14 professional fights to his name.
"This is about glory for me and becoming the heavyweight champion of the world, something I've dreamed about since I started boxing."
"Haye will not fight the Klitschkos as long as they are champions, but I'm up for the fight and will take them on […] The Klitschkos have ruled for too long and I can't wait to get into the ring in Germany and smash the living daylights out of Wladimir,
first."
