David Haye still thinks Klitschko contracts unfair, says fight will happen in 2011
In a latest outburst, WBA heavyweight titlist David Haye has accused the Klitschko brothers of unreasonable contractual demands. While this isn’t the first time Haye has spoken about the business practices of the Klitschkos, the criticisms appear to have
gained substance in light of Derek Chisora’s upcoming December 11 bout with Wladimir Klitschko.
In an article for Golzka, Haye said he will definitely fight either of the Klitschkos in 2011 if they drop the “slave contracts.” He said: “The fight will happen in 2011 against one of the Klitschko brothers. I don't care which. But if I win, they want
me to commit myself to fighting two back to back fights [against either Klitschko]. What the Klitschkos say and what's in the contracts are two different stories,” Haye said.
Haye’s claim has been legitimized by Chisora, the inexperienced heavyweight prospect who recently signed for a fight with Wladimir Klitschko. One stipulation of the fight contract is that if Chisora wins, he is immediately slated to fight older brother
Vitali Klitschko. And should he win again, he is obliged to give Wladimir a rematch next.
Apart from complaining about unfair contracts, Haye complained about unfair proposed financial splits over money generated from broadcasting networks. Haye does not want to share funds made from Sky Sports pay-per-view, while the Klitschko brothers have
proposed a 50-50 split of revenue regardless of network.
According to Klitschkos’ manager Bernd Boente, Haye’s demand with regards to Sky Sports is unreasonable since more revenue will be made from the English-based network than from the German channel RTL, who will likely broadcast the fight in Germany.
Haye won the WBA title when he defeated Nikolai Valuev in 2008. He has been roundly challenged and offered contracts by the Klitschkos, but has felt that terms were not amicable.
Haye has one defeat, in 2004, when he was stopped by Carl Thompson.
