David Haye still waiting for Vitali Klitschko – Boxing News
British heavyweight David Haye insists his comeback is only for a match against Vitali Klitschko. Haye, who knocked out Dereck Chisora in the fifth round of his comeback bout, wants to end his career with a match against Vitali.
Haye has previously fought against Wladimir Klitschko, Vitali’s younger brother, and lost. Back then, Haye decided to retire following his loss to Wladimir. However, after a public brawl with Dereck Chisora, Haye came back to avenge his humiliation. Now,
the British heavyweight is looking forward to a match with the Ukrainian WBC world heavyweight champion.
“He’s the only fighter, who can make my return a prolonged one. Whether my performance against Chisora inspires him to accept a fight with me or run in the other direction instead, I have no idea,” said Haye when asked about his career plans.
“If a fight with Vitaly happens, that would be fantastic. If it doesn’t, so be it. I’ve achieved more than I anticipated. I’m happy,” he added.
“The Charr fight is a low risk, low reward contest. Most people reckon Vitaly is the toughest heavyweight in the world. He’s the guy I want next.”
Haye is quite young compared to Vitali in terms of the bouts they have fought. Vitali stands with 44 wins in his portfolio, out of which 40 have come in by knockout. On the other hand, Haye stands with 26 wins, with 24 coming in via knockout.
Considering Haye’s knockout ratio, it is evident that the British Heavyweight is indeed the right opponent for Vitali Klitschko. The Ukrainian fighter is planning to have his last fight by this September, and David Haye is not yet listed as a possible opponent
with his camp.
Haye is trying his level best to make sure Vitali accepts his challenge but nothing is for sure yet. Haye made a statement by knocking out Dereck Chisora on July 14 at the Upton Park in London and he revived his career. Now, he is satisfied with whatever
he has acquired in the sport. According to the Briton fighter, he will happily retire now with or without facing Vitali Klitschko.
