David Haye won't fight Klitschko bout in Germany
WBA heavyweight champion David Haye has indicated he will not fight either of the Klitschko brothers in Germany.
In an article with The South London Press “The Hayemaker” said, “I want the fight in London - I don’t want to go to Germany. I went out to Germany to win my title [against Nikolai Valuev] and I want my defining fight to be on British soil. They’ve
had enough fights in Germany.”
Haye made the comments on the heels of his weekend victory over Audley Harrison. Haye put Harrison to the canvas in three rounds in a fight most considered dismally noncompetitive.
“This is my last year in the sport and there is no doubt it is going to be my best year - I want to go and clear out the heavyweight division.”
Haye expressed his desire to meet Wladimir or Vitali Klitschko at either Wembley or Greenwich’s O2 Arena.
The demands should not pose problems for the Klitschkos as they have indicated they would be willing to meet Haye in London with a 50-50 purse deal across the board.
Haye, though, argued that the Klitschkos should not be entitled to 50 per cent of British TV revenues for the fight. He wants to take all British revenues and allow the Klitschkos to keep all German television revenues from the German network RTL.
According to Klitschkos’ manager Bernd Bonte, this arrangement is unfair, since more income will be generated from British television.
Haye, 30, has indicated that he will retire by the time he turns 31. As WBA champion he is widely considered one of the top three heavyweights in the world. This is despite the fact that he has yet to fight the best competition of his division—namely the
Klitschkos, Alexander Povetkin, Tomasz Adamek, or Odlandier Solis (from whom he suffered an amateur loss).
