David Hearn seven shots behind the leader
It has been a very surprising RBC Canadian Open so far. Those who were expected to do well faded away, whereas at the top, we have some new faces.
Who would have thought that Jim Furyk and Ernie Els will not make the cut? I guess nobody would have. Then everybody expected local players to do well but the highest ranked Canadian at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club is David Hearn, who is seven shots
behind the leader.
Wet conditions made it tough for the players out there. In wet conditions, putting especially is a major headache.
Scott Piercy shares the lead at the top with fellow American, Williams McGirt. The Canadian so far has had a poor tournament. Mike Weir once again missed the cut, taking his tally to 11 missed cuts in the trot.
David Hearn is at T26 after the first two rounds, shooting 2-under 68 in both the rounds. There are still two rounds to go and all is yet to play for.
David was pretty satisfied with his performance so far. Hearn spent the night at his home and the thunderstorm woke him up in the middle of the night.
“I gave myself some good opportunities but I missed some shots and made some nice up and downs. I just was not as consistent with the iron play. I hit some very good iron shots but I was also a little loose,” said Hearn.
“I am playing pretty steady I am just not getting the iron shot to the 15-foot range where you need to get hot.”
In a round of 68, there were three birdies on the front nine for Hearn. “I felt really good,” Hearn said. “I made a nice long putt on 16 for a birdie then I got to the par-five (17th), made a nice drive right down the middle and that was kind of disappointing
not to make birdie there”.
If Hearn continues to play at this steady peace then chances are that he may end up finishing in the top-ten or so. This will be a huge result for him if he manages that, plus being a Canadian it would make him proud even more.
