David Heron pockets Men’s 10k Open Water gold – Junior Pan Pacific Championships
David Heron of USA pocketed gold medal of Men’s 10k Open Water race on fifth day of the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii on Monday, August 27.
Heron, who finished sixth in the 800m freestyle on fourth day of the tournament, spoiled the party of his opponents by capturing gold medal of the event.
He stayed in a considerable lead over his opponents and rushed his way towards the finishing line for gold medal by crossing the end with a phenomenal timing of 1 hour, 42 minutes and 01.00 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Zachary Parkes of Canada, who stayed 23 seconds slower and settled on the finishing blockade as second position holder by completing his swim in a wonderful time of 1 hour, 42 minutes and 24.00 seconds.
Subsequently, Parkes was chased by Janardan Burns of USA, who remained more than half a minute slower from him over the finishing end and secured bronze medal of the race by submitting a nice time of 1 hour, 42 minutes and 57.00 seconds.
Burns was followed by Takumi Nakashima of Japan, who was nine seconds slower from upsetting the third position holder and settled on the blockade as fourth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 1 hour, 43 minutes and 06.00 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Jordan Harrison of Australia, who stayed more than a minute slower from Nakashima and concluded his race in a time of 1 hour, 44 minutes and 08.00 seconds.
The Australian was traced by his teammate, Chris Deegan, who stayed nearly two minutes slower from his foregoing finisher and clocked a time of 1 hour, 46 minutes and 10.00 seconds for sixth position.
Similarly, Deegan was followed by Ben Ruback of New Zealand, who remained 13 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and ended his race in a time of 1 hour, 46 minutes and 23.00 seconds.
In addition, Heron was extremely pleased with his performance in the 10k event and said that he would work harder in future to accomplish the same at forthcoming swimming events.
