David Higgins takes the second position at the Titleist PGA Play-Offs after round two
David Higgins carded a one-under par 70, in the second round of the Titleist PGA Play-Offs, to trail Richard Wallis by one shot, on Wednesday, December 12, 2012. The event is being played at the Antalya Golf Club’s PGA Sultan Course in Turkey.
At the end of the tournament, the winner will receive an invitation to participate in next year’s BMW PGA Championship, to be held at the Wentworth Club in Virginia Water, Surrey, England.
Higgins, who held a one-stroke lead, entering the second round, got off to a poor start, by conceding two bogeys against a lone birdie on the front nine of the course.
The back nine also witnessed him make a similar start, as he bogeyed two of the first five holes that he played.
Thereafter, he made a strong comeback by birdying three of the last four holes, to finish the day on a high note.
Talking to the reporters after finishing his round, he expressed his pleasure in posting an under-par score, despite making a poor start on day two.
"I was all over the place in my second round, I could not find my rhythm," he said. "I hit it in the water off the first and was either good or bad but I was proud of how I hung in there. I holed a great par putt on 14 when I was in danger of going three
over for the round and then birdied three of the last four so I was pleased how I turned it round”.
He also said that he was disappointed to hear about the shortening of the tournament to 54 holes, after the inclement weather forced the third round to be suspended.
“It's obviously disappointing not to play 72 holes but I'm sure all the guys will make it an exciting finish tomorrow,” he said.
Last year, Higgins lost to Wallis in the 2011 edition of the tournament, after carding a 12-under par 201 against Wallis’ 13-under par tournament score.
This year, the Walmer & Kingsdown Golf Club pro plans to go one position better, by maintaining consistency in his game in the final round.
