David Hivey, Rob Partridge of Royal Yacht Association win 2011 RS800 Last Shout Championship
Royal Yacht Association’s David Hivey and Rob Partridge enjoyed an excellent sail at the Rutland Sailing Club, as they made their way to the top of 2011 RS800 Last Shout Championship standings with impressive scores. The RYA pair put up an impressive performance
and topped the RS800 fleet with four points after four races, including a discard.
The weather conditions showed a 13 to 14 degrees temperature with no winds, a day before the racing began. On the racing day, a pleasant breeze greeted participants along with a bit of fog. The first two races commenced under the same wind speed but in the
third race, the forecast shifted and the breeze started building from 12 to 14 knots.
The RYA duo finished second in Race 1 behind Roger Philips and Will Crocker of Emberton Sailing Club. They slipped down in the second race finishing fifth, but they sprang back brilliantly in the next two scheduled races and with the help of some outstanding
sailing techniques, they clinched the last two beats to hit the first podium spot.
Behind Hivey and Partridge, first race winners, Philips and Crocker finished second securing seven points while Burghfield Sailing Club’s Justin Deal and Ollie Page occupied third position overall with eight points.
