David Horsey hopes to retain Trophy Hassan II in Morocco despite facing form vows
Englishman David Horsey is still hopeful of retaining his title, the Trophy Hassan II here in Morocco this week, despite facing form vows for the last one year.
The 26-year-old won his second European Tour title last year, overcoming strong opponents of the likes of Rhys Davies and Jaco Van Zyl in the playoff. He hadn’t had a top-ten finish since his bid in Morocco last year except for the KLM Open.
He said, “It’s great to be back and obviously I have a lot of good memories of winning the tournament here last year. I played very well throughout the week last year apart from the very end when I tried to throw the tournament away a couple of times but
thankfully I came through the play-off and managed to get the job done”.
Horsey has four professional wins to his credit, and won his first European Tour title in 2010 at BMW International Open. He has been playing as a professional golfer since 2007.
Horsey insists that he is in top-form at the moment and has made a lot of changes last year including his switch to Callaway clubs which have done wonders for the Englishman.
Horsey also lauded the facilities at the Golf du Palais Royal of the Royal Palace of Agadir and said that it is a matter of honour to be able to play at the luxurious course in North Africa.
He said, “We are very, very privileged to be invited to play here and once again the course is in fantastic condition so I am looking forward to the week ahead”.
Horsey is known to have one of the loftiest swings in the European Tour circuit at the moment.
Some of the top-ranked European Tour players will be tee-ing off at this week including Frenchman Julien Quesne who won the Open de Andalucía last week.
Also featuring will be Robert Rock of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship fame and Matteo Manassero who posted a strong runner up finish last week.
2010 winner in Morocco, Rhys Davies will also be returning to re-claim the title and the revered golden dagger, the winner’s trophy of the event.
