David Howell returns to his old putter – Golf News
David Howell has decided to enter the field of the Maybank Malaysian Open, carrying his old Yes Golf Callie 32 putter to contend at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club from April 12 to 15, 2012.
Howell had been using the putter for the last six years, but decided to change it early in the season. However, the trick did not work for him and he missed the cut in the Sicily Open last month.
Therefore, he decided to return to his old putter that has helped him in making some really good finishes in the past.
According to Howell, the change did not help him out and his putting went worse with the passage of time. That is the reason he wants to go back using the putter he trusts.
“I am feeling good and have some clear things in mind for my swing, which is key going into tournaments like this,” he said.
Playing at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club will be his second experience. Overall, he has played the tournament five times in his career.
However, he has not been impressive yet as his best finish came in the 1999 edition when he tied for the 27th place on the leaderboard.
This year, he aims to surpass his best score using his experience that he earned in his last appearance at the venue.
“It is certainly a tough course but there are some birdie opportunities out there,” he said. “I played a round on Tuesday and felt quite good, so I know what to expect”.
“I have not had great success in this tournament so a high finish would be very welcome. There is some water around which needs to be avoided, but if I can do that I am confident I can do well,” he added.
According to him, humidity will play an important role in the tournament as it cause huge trouble for the players playing in Asia.
Therefore, he will have to play really well in order to outshine his opponents that include five major winners and many other Asian golf stars.
