David Hussey aims for a World Cup berth
Veteran Australian batsman David Hussey is confident of proving his critics wrong after he was included in the ODI squad for the series against England. The star batsman last played for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391 2009.
Brother of the ever dependable Michael Husssey, David will be a part of the team that will play the first ODI match against England on Sunday, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
The 33 year old player was excited on being selected for the team and said that he will take maximum advantage of this opportunity to represent his country and make a place in the final squad for the World Cup.
The chairman of selectors for Australia Andrew Hilditch stated that David is suited to the batting conditions in subcontinent and considering that, he was made a part of the initial squad for the World Cup.
On this opportunity, David said, “It is fantastic for me, it has been 18 months since I played, so I'm rapt to be part of the squad again. I'm looking forward to proving a few people wrong.”
David is mostly considered as a Twenty20 player as he is famous for his power hitting in the shortest version of the game. However, he believes that he has a role to play in every format of the game and he also intends to play Test cricket if he would be
given an opportunity by the selectors in the future.
He commented, “I never believed I was finished in any form of the game. I'm still harbouring hopes of playing Test cricket, I desperately want to play Test cricket.”
The World Cup squad is expected to be announced by the Australian selectors next Wednesday and the younger Hussey aims to make it to the final 15. He said that he will be focusing on the series against England to prove himself worthy of selection.
He stated, “I really want to focus on the next couple of games and hopefully get a World Cup berth, that is my full focus.”
