David Hussey among forerunners for Test batting place: National selector – Cricket News Update

“If you look at the middle order options should we need replacements,” Inverarity said. “We have got our top six at the moment but if you are looking for a middle order option and the ones that come very much to mind are http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Forrest-c2176, George Bailey and
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Hussey-c1380. They are the ones that are to the fore at the moment.”
Earlier this week after arriving in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 for Australia’s ODI tour, David Hussey pointed out that he still cherished the desire to play Test cricket for the country, which was his ultimate goal.
The all-rounder, who made his international debut in February 2008 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at Melbourne, has been among Australia’s most consistent performers, having scored a total of 1488 runs in 55 ODIs, and an astonishing 5418 runs in 223 T20s. Despite this, the
34-year-old has yet to make his Test debut, having frequently been sidelined at the expense of lesser credentialed batsmen.
However, the all-rounder’s chances of finally earning the baggy green cap appear to be taking an upward turn, with Inverarity hinting that the team is in need of reliable back-up players to cover up for the dearth of high-performing young batsmen in the
middle order.
“We need more good young middle order batsmen coming through. At the moment they are not really obvious but we have some good back-up players in Bailey, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stewart-Jonathan-Walters-c91389 and David Hussey,” he said.
From among Inverarity’s choices, Hussey appears as the frontrunner, given the span of his career. Bailey debuted for the national side in February this year, and has only played 5 ODIs and 4 T20 Internationals, while Forrest, who made his debut during the
Commonwealth Series in February this year, has only played a total of 11 ODIs.
The younger Hussey is currently with the Australian squad for their ODI tour of England, and Inverarity’s advice to perform consistently over the next 12 months in order to earn a Test place is particularly significant, in light of the fact that the next
Ashes series is due to be played in 2013.
