David Hussey confident after last-ball win against Chargers – Cricket News Roundup – Part 1 – May 14, 2012

Following their emphatic last-ball win over Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League, Kings XI Punjab’s skipper, David Hussey, is confident that his team can still upset the balance of the season by making it to the play-offs.

With just two points separating five teams, the chance to finish among the top four is up for grabs for the Punjab franchise, which kept their hopes alive with a stunning comeback win last night, courtesy a sublime unbeaten half-century from Hussey.

Chasing a daunting 191 to win, Hussey kept his side in the hunt by contributing 65 off 35 balls, and managed to get ample support in the shape of debutant Gurkeerat Singh, who slammed 29 runs of just 12 deliveries. "We got three big games, you never know,
we could sneak into the finals," said Hussey.

Mumbai Indians’ mentor, Shaun Pollock, said that his side must stop the threat offered by Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers in their upcoming Indian Premier League match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The pre-tournament favourites meet in a crunch game at Challengers home, with a win for either side will considerably help their charge in making to the knock-out phase of the current edition.

Pollock highlighted Gayle, the Orange cap holder, and De Villiers, his former national teammate, as the players to be stopped.

"If we get him( Gayle) early, it will be a big blow for RCB. We obviously realise, he is a very important player for the hosts. He has been making runs consistently. We also don't want de Villiers to play well against us,” said Pollock.

Rajasthan Royals’ skipper, Rahul Dravid, said that the team is focused on playing good cricket in their remaining IPL matches, and has praised youngster Ajit Chandila.

The Royals are in contention for play-off position after their convincing victory against Pune Warriors by 45 runs. The star of the show was debutant Ajit Chandila, who grabbed four scalps, including a hat-trick.

“We are playing some very good cricket and kept our hopes alive. We still have a couple of games to go… “The man we call the doorknob (referring to Ajit Chandila) was sensational today,” said Dravid.
